Sunset Skatepark is a skatepark located on the riverfront that is currently under construction. Upon completion, it will be the largest concrete skatepark in all of Indiana!

The designs for Sunset Skatepark were finalized in May of 2022. Many events and fundraisers led up to the moment on groundbreaking in December of 2022.

Sunset has had many fundraisers and benefits to help raise money for construction:

  • May 2021 – Evansville bands put together a benefit show to raise money for the park’s construction.
  • May 2021 – the Art Council held a show and silent auction, raising the cause an additional $1,500. They also received a matching grant for the event, doubling their total.
  • June 2021 – CenterPoint Energy donated $40,000
  • June 2021 – High Score Saloon held a fundraiser gaining over $1,200 with a doubling grant.

Construction is scheduled to be finished in December 2023. The first concrete pour was just in these past few months on August 26th! Since then, a Facebook post made by Deputy Mayor Steve Schaefer on September 16th shared that the Sunset Skatepark has had several updates in construction. More concrete fixtures have been poured and parts of the steel infrastructure have been places as well.

Sunset Skatepark posted on September 20th that street lights have been installed around the park. They also posted a video on their Instagram page of some concrete being placed and shaped in the park, making tracks, dips, and loops for skaters.

Those helping with construction were tagged in the post. Tagged organizations include:

  • Garmong Construction
  • Hunger Skateparks
  • Evansville Department of Parks & Recreation
  • Sunset Skatepark

Construction is staying timely and is scheduled to be finished at the end of this semester!
